Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about the help AMIGA provides.

What kind of support can I receive from AMIGA?
AMIGA helps migrants adapt to life in the Czech Republic. We offer individual and group psychological support, as well as consultations with intercultural workers on the Czech healthcare system, education, and other areas. You can also take part in educational and integration activities and programs for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. You can find out about all current programs in the Our Activities section.
Is it possible to contact AMIGA in an emergency when someone intends to commit suicide or has witnessed a suicide attempt?
If there is an immediate threat to life or a suicide attempt has already occurred, it is necessary to contact the emergency services immediately. In the Czech Republic, call 155 (medical emergency service) or 112 (the single European emergency number). These lines operate 24/7 and are free of charge. Free, round-the-clock psychological help is also available on 116 123 (for adults) and 116 111 (for children and young people up to 26).

AMIGA provides psychological and psychosocial support; however, it is not a crisis intervention service and cannot replace the medical emergency service in situations involving an immediate threat to life.

If there is no immediate threat to life, but a person is experiencing a serious psychological crisis, having suicidal thoughts, or you are concerned about the condition of someone close to you, you can contact AMIGA specialists to request psychological support. As part of the DUMKA project, we provide 10 individual crisis consultations. Information on how to take part in other AMIGA activities can be found on our website in the Our Activities section and on our social media pages.
Are AMIGA services free of charge?
AMIGA is an independent nonprofit organization. We provide all our services completely free of charge.
Who can contact AMIGA?
We work with all migrants living in the Czech Republic. Some of our programs are intended for specific groups, such as children, adolescents, parents, seniors, or professionals in helping professions. Each program may also have its own participation requirements—for example, regarding place of residence or type of residence status in the Czech Republic. Detailed information can be found in the Our Activities and Current Projects sections.
In which languages is support available?
In Ukrainian, Russian, Czech, and English. The language of a specific consultation, group, or activity is indicated in its description.
Where do AMIGA consultations and activities take place?
Most of our in-person consultations, groups, and activities take place in Prague, at our community center at Belgická 11. However, they may also be held at other locations. The exact address is always provided in the description of the specific activity or communicated when registration is confirmed.
Is it possible to attend an activity without registering?
Some meetings can be attended without prior registration. However, advance registration is required to participate in groups, individual consultations, and activities with a limited number of participants. Please pay attention to the participation requirements stated in the announcement for each activity.
How can I become an AMIGA volunteer?
Volunteers help us organize activities, develop communities, and create a space where people from different countries can meet, communicate, and support one another. It is a great opportunity to use your skills and talents and strengthen your résumé: volunteer experience is highly valued on the Czech labor market. AMIGA provides an official document confirming your volunteer work in our organization. If you would like to become our volunteer, fill out the form on the "I’m a Volunteer" page of our website or contact us. You can find our contact details here.
